hi youtubers jeff cote here with ask pys  so we've got a question uh from san  francisco actually  um this gentleman is asking and asks we  run an all-girls youth broking program  in san francisco bay our boat is a  55-foot  x rcmp patrol boat built by canoe cove  canoe cove is actually here in british  columbia  we're preparing to install a solar  system with an inverter and we have some  questions  clarifying questions between where we  should connect the inverter should it be  unswitched  or switched distribution all right so  with that what we're going to do is  we're going to start having a look  at the concept of switch versus  unswitched  so follow me here on the screen so  unswitch distribution is what i'm  highlighting in red right now and that's  basically where all  things that should always be powered be  connected to  so what are things that should always be  powered on your boat a bilge pump  carbon monoxide uh chargers uh should  always be connected to the unswitched  and  also and very importantly an inverter  charger  okay now if it's an inverter only you'll  notice  here that i'm highlighting the switch  distribution and  an inverter can actually be connected to  the switch distribution  but the key is important it's not an  inverter charger it's an inverter  because if it's an inverter it's a loan  load only  if it's an inverter charger it's both a  load and a charger  so if we change the diagram and we're  looking at just  inverter only or an inverter charger you  can actually see that there's an  inverter service disconnect and it's  connected actually to the  unswitched distribution so when you've  got an  inverter charger you're going to want to  connect it to an  unswitched distribution and when you  have an inverter only  right here you can actually connect it  to the switch distribution  it's better to have as many loads as  possible be  on your switch distribution and the  reason for that is when you disconnect  your invert your loads on a boat you  want with one single throw of that  switch you want to know  that everything is off except a few very  few circuits  like bilge like a charger like an  alternator like solar  those are unswitched and always  connected to the battery  and switched are things that sometimes  for in the men's  an event of a fire in the event of an  emergency you can simply throw the  switch or turn the switch over  and you disconnected all those loads  from the battery  thank you for watching this pys video if  you've got further questions  ask them down below or go on our website  to fill one of the forms don't forget to subscribe and thanks for  watching
