Thoughts on Battery Terminal Fuse

Question:

Hi Jeff and team, I have a 1978 Taiwan trawler in Ladysmth that I am updating continually. I completed your electrical survey recommendations that was done about 3 years ago. I’ve added loads of fuses as close to ABYC recommendations as possible but I still cannot know what the condition of wire runs in hidden chasis?  What are the pros and cons of battery terminal fuses?  Thank you for your time and expertise.  - Steve

Answer:

Hi Steve, with fusing you always want the fuse to be located at the start of the circuit, i.e. as close to the battery as possible. As such, battery terminal fuses are great because you are protecting the wire at the start of the wire.
