Using a Digital Heading Sensor to Stop the Boat Orientation From Spinning

Question:

My buddy has a Scout on Galiano with a Simrad navigation system and the boat orientation spins when you stop or start. In the first picture the boat is parallel to the dock. Any suggestions? - Craig

Answer:

This happens when there is heading sensor connected to the chartplotter. Most boats get their digital heading from an integrated A/P connected to the chartplotter. You can buy a digital heading sensor ($200 - $900) so that boat direction is available even when the boat is stationary. - Jeff
