hi everyone  jeff cote here at the pacific yacht  systems  hq all right so we've got a question  from kevin a fellow voter  um this boater has been undergoing a lot  of upgrades on his boat and he says uh  jeff i've been following your  recommendations and been heaviest  investing in red and yellow wiring which  is a great idea you want a color code  it's going to make your life easier  waterproof waterproof crimps great idea  too  terminal blocks love it um and a battery  monitor  i noted that there's an ask bys and by  the way all are asked pys we have  hundreds and hundreds are on our website  so you can see and search all of them  you've mentioned to keep the bilge pump  wired directly to the battery but my  question is  which battery should it be connected to  my engine battery or my house battery  well kevin that is a very good question  and unfortunately it's a question that  doesn't have an easy black and white  answer  um if you ask a hundred professionals  whereas should your  belch pump be connected to i'd say  probably maybe a quarter of the people  are going to save the engine battery  i fall on the other camp i'm a big  proponent of keeping my engine battery  for strictly engine related activities  and that's why it's called an engine  battery and my house battery does  everything else everything outside of  running  the engine and so with a bilge pump  bilge pumps as we know should be  unswitched circuits meaning that even  when you have your battery switch  off the bilge pump should still be able  to function either through an  auto function or a manual on and off  function  and i rewire them to the house battery  and i'll tell you a few reasons one of  them is that the house battery is  generally bigger than the engine battery  so that would be so  the bilge pumps can run longer second i  also think that my engine battery should  you  do one thing and one thing only is  actually running the engine  and so we leave the bilge pumps  connected unswitched  direct connection to the battery to the  house battery bank  and that's my opinion but not to say  it's everyone's opinion  thanks for watching this video if you've  got further questions that we didn't  answer  please ask them below or go on our  website and fill up one of the forums  and we'll get a chance to do so support  us to keep this channel  ad free by donating via paypal or  buying one of these lovely hats the  links are below and lastly if you  haven't subscribed to our channel  please do so that way you'll get the  regular contents and in closing  thanks for watching
