Why Do the Batteries Get Drained When Inverter Is in the "ON" Position, but Not in Use?

Question:

I'd like to know why batteries get drained when inverter is in the on position, but not in use....? Thanks. - Claude

Answer:

As it relates to power draws, an inverter is very similar to a home computer, both still draw power just to be on stand-by and ready to be used. An inverter constantly monitors battery voltage and potentially any loads that might need to be run off the inverter. We advise boaters who aren’t using their inverters, to turn off the inverter as a way to save battery power. - Jeff
