Solder vs Crimp

Question:

I am rewiring my Ranger 23 as when I tried to replace an instrument I found the wiring was more a tangle of wires.  I have watched all your videos on Marine wiring and you always crimp connections.  Is there a reason you do not solder them? - Richard

Answer:

Thanks for contacting PYS, your question about crimp vs solder for marine connections is a common one. Since boats are prone to vibrations, a solder connection is more prone to failure than a mechanical crimp. When you do a crimp, make sure to do a good pull test to confirm the integrity of the connection. - Jeff
