VHF Interference from Transdcuer Cabling?

Question:

I have a Raymarine 470 depth sounder and the transducer cable runs very close to the power cable for the VHF where the cables pass to the bridge. The main bang on the transducer causes interference in the form of a clicking sound on the VHF. Is there anything I can use to stop this?

Answer:

If the cables have to run alongside one another, you could trying shielding one of the cables to reduce the interference. This shielded could also be grounded but only at one end so it is not current carrying.

Oddly, transducer cables are generally already shielded to help reduce and potentially avoid this type of problems. Check if the transducer cable is shielded or if it was spliced open.
