Interconnecting Different Size Wires

Question:

I have been working on replacing my boats DC electrical system and I’ve been reviewing all of the PYS YouTube videos to help me with this. Jeff talks about how he uses large gauge wire (10-12 gauge) for all of his electrical so if he has to upgrade an item in the future the wire can handle his load. The thing that I can’t seem to find any info on is the proper way to connect the larger wire run from a breaker to the smaller 16-18 gauge wire that is connected to the light or device. If you could please advise me on the recommended way to do this, that would be very helpful. Thanks!  - Tanner

Answer:

Hi Tanner, the best solution for interconnecting two different wire sizes, is a terminal strip:

Connect one larger wire to one side a smaller wire to other side.  - Jeff
