Do Multiple House Battery Charging Sources Compete with Each Other? Or Charge Simultaneously?

Question:

I hope your mid-summer is going well.  I am wondering what your experience is with multiple house battery charging sources all connected to the 12vdc buss?  For example, an MPPT Charge controller, a shorepower charge controller and a Smart charger from the Alternator via DC/DC converter.  Granted these devices all sense voltage on the battery buss, and then decide how to act accordingly, wonder if you have experienced issues with them competing or behaving oddly? - Adam

Answer:

Since charging devices are all individually voltage regulated you can have multiple smart charging devices on one positive bus.  And, depending on the battery voltage levels, some and maybe all of them will be online to bring the battery voltage to the correct 3 phase charging levels. - Jeff
