Do I Need an External Alternator Voltage Regulator if I Have Battery Isolator on My Boat ?

Question:

Hi Jeff, love your videos - thanks!  I am curious, do I need an external alternator voltage regulator If I have battery isolator on my boat? - Amir

Answer:

A battery isolator only shares a battery voltage and the internal or external regulator controls the alternator output voltage. You always need a regulator (either internal “dumb” or external “smart) for your alternator.  - Jeff
