Can You Recommend an Alternator for My 400 Ah Battery Bank?

Question:

I am repowering my boat with a Beta 50 marine diesel engine. The standard alternator is 70 amp.I want to upgrade to at least 120 amps. My battery bank is 400 amp hours of heavy duty wet cell batteries with an additional start battery. What would you recommend and what can you supply. Please advise prices. Thank you, Roger

Answer:

Suggest you consider getting an external regulator connected to your alternator to make it smart, and you can also derate the 120 amp alternator to 90 amps and yet not have the 120 amp alternator run harder than it needs too.
