Can My Boat's Battery Charger (Turned Off) Cause an Amp Draw?

Question:

Hi Jeffk, I enjoy and appreciate your short YouTube videos. I have a steady 0.29-amp drain on one of my 2 batteries, and pulling the fuses makes no difference. Can the battery charger (turned off) cause an amp draw? Any advice on resolving this would be appreciated. Thanks!  - Barry

Answer:

Well that’s a pickle, assuming your battery meter is correct, there are a few unswitched (always on) circuits on boats, including stereo memory, carbon monoxide detectors, etc. I really doubt and hope that your battery charger, when not energized on the AC side is not draining your batteries. It’s a slow meticulous process to find ghost loads, good luck. - Jeff
