Battery Isolators or DC to DC Chargers?

Question:

Is there any way possible to charge a 24 volt system (2 batteries connected in series) with the input being 12 volts with the Victron Energy ARGOFET Battery Isolator on one output and charge a 12 volt on the second output? Whether it be a battery switch or connecting the charger in series on the output side. I am trying to find a solution to charge my trolling motor batteries off my boat motor and still charge the starter battery. Thank you!  - Melissa

Answer:

Hi Melissa, unfortunately battery isolators are not DC to DC converters and as such do NOT convert voltage. The purpose of the battery isolator is to share a charging voltage from an alternator, a battery isolator does not alter a voltage.  For your application, you’ll need to get a DC to DC charging converter:  https://www.victronenergy.com/dc-dc-converters/orion-tr%20smart   - Jeff
