June 1-14 – Van Isle 360 International Yacht Race is now in its eleventh running and has grown into one of the most respected and exciting yacht races on the entire west coast, with international media coverage, heart-stopping drama and superb racing action. 

June 8 – World Ocean’s Day - On World Oceans Day, people around our blue planet celebrate and honor the ocean, which connects us all. Get together with your family, friends, community, and the planet to start creating a better future. Working together, we can and will protect our shared ocean. Join this growing global celebration on 8 June!

June 8-17 – BC Seafood Festival – Featuring a star studded selection of chefs and venues around the Comox Valley.  Now in its 11th year, order online as tickets sell out fast.

June 10 – Burrard Yacht Club Classic Boat & Car Show features a great collection of classic cars and wooden boats.  Free Sailing for the kids and a dinner/dance on the breakwater.  This is an annual fundraiser for the Disabled Sailing Association. I have attended with my classic car and it is a fun event.

June 10 – Boat for Hope Vancouver takes place around English Bay, False Creek and Hastings Mill Park and brings together the local boating and business community to create an unforgettable experience for kids who may otherwise never be able to enjoy such an adventure.

June 15-17 – Gibson’s Landing Jazz Festival now in its 23rd year and featuring too many performers to list and a street festival followed by a dance at the Gibsons Royal Canadian Legion.

June 17 – Father’s Day – Don’t forget dear old dad!

June 22-24 - Annual Vancouver Dragon Boat Festival is 3 days of exciting racing and onshore events.  A big draw is the Survivor Showdown, Abreast In A Boat vs. Butts In A Boat – is a challenge between prostate and breast cancer survivors to help build awareness.

The 56th Annual Comox Nautical Days Festival returns with all the games, nautical competitions, outstanding entertainment and great food you've come to love and expect. Whether you're cheering on the competitors or taking part in one of the many events, Comox Nautical Days Festival has something for everyone.


Sunday, August 3 - Victoria Symphony Splash

Victoria Symphony Splash is the largest annual outdoor symphony event in Canada, attracting up to 40,000 Victoria residents and visitors. It includes musical entertainment, food, souvenirs and the evening's highlight: a live performance by the Victoria Symphony.


Friday, August 8 to Sunday, August 10 - Richmond Maritime Festival

Don’t miss the 11th annual Richmond Maritime Festival at the spectacular Britannia Shipyards, National Historic Site. Free and fun for all ages with an outdoor evening concert featuring the roots blues, zydeco, swamp, pop and folk sounds of The Swamp Dogs performing from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.


Saturday, August 23 - Steveston Dragon Boat Festival

Entertainment, kid’s arts and crafts, great vendors, food, and of course, exciting dragon boat races. Cheer your favourite team on to victory!


Friday, August 29 to Sunday August 31 - Victoria Classic Boat Festival

The Festival attracts the finest power, sail, & steam boats from the Pacific Northwest & around the world. A number of the vessels will be open to the public over the weekend in addition to the activity of the smaller boats, motor & steam running around the harbour.

Photography Exhibit Fishing the West Coast 2012 - Now Open!

The photography exhibit Fishing the West Coast 2012 at the Gulf of Georgia Cannery in Steveston is now open! This annual exhibit features photographs of the West Coast fishing industry. Separated into categories, the images span from artistic interpretation to realistic images of life on the water.

The photo contest entries can be found on this Flickr page. The photographs were submitted as entries to the “Fishing the West Coast Photo Contest” and  visitors to the Cannery can play an important role in helping determine this year’s winners. Go down to the Cannery or visit the Flickr page to vote for your favourite photographs!

9th Annual Richmond Maritime Festival

This celebration of Steveston's maritime heritage will be held at the Britannia Heritage Shipyard. It all kicks off on the evening of Friday, August 10th with live music, drumming and light refreshments.

Come back on Saturday and Sunday, August 10th and 11th, from 11:00am–6:00pm for full-scale festival fun for all ages. Enjoy food, music, artists, storytellers, dancers, drummers and more. But whatever you do, don’t forget to visit the bounty of beautiful wooden boats moored at the 190-metre dock. There will be exhibitors from the Vancouver Wooden Boat Society, Britannia Heritage Shipyard Society, Port Metro Vancouver, and many more!
