September 2018

Aug 31 - Sep 2 | Victoria Classic Boat Festival - Join us on the docks to view 100+ classic boats, visit our floating exhibits, cheer on your favourite boats in the races, and take part in one of our many activities, workshops, and events.

September 6 – 9 | The 2018 rendezvous for Northwest Kadey-Krogen owners will be held at the The Union Steamship Company Marina located on Bowen Island in British Columbia. This will be a memorable weekend with a full slate of fun and educational opportunities for all!

September 6 – 11 | Carving on the Edge Festival is an annual gathering that celebrates traditional and contemporary carving arts. This year’s theme, Totems & Tributaries, will explore carving as a visual language. Totem Poles stand tall, telling stories of the land and its peoples. Tributaries connect our coastal communities to those upstream, uniting us along ancient salmon migration routes. The festival offers something for everyone – from lovers of arts & culture to carvers of all skill levels.

September 7 – 9 | The Skookum Festival - A weekend of music, creativity and culinary excellence. Framed by the shoreline forests of Vancouver’s iconic Stanley Park, SKOOKUM features an eclectic mix of contemporary music, food, and art – just minutes from the centre of British Columbia’s largest city. Alongside a music lineup of legends and new favorites, you’ll discover live art and multimedia installations by local artists, complemented by a taste-tripping selection of culinary experiences – from cool food trucks to remarkable dishes from some of Vancouver’s most notable chefs and restaurateurs. Thirsty? We’ll also be bringing you the region’s best with tasting areas showcasing premium BC wines, local distilleries, and craft breweries.

September 8 - 9 | At Painters Lodge, experience French Riviera theme Art in the Garden. Over 30 Artisans each weekend will be displaying their works among the trees with live music, mimes, decadent food and cocktails at the beautiful Painter’s Lodge, overlooking the Discovery passage. Dates are every weekend starting September 8th to Sept 30th.

August 2018

August 10 - 12 – Sechelt Coasters Car Club 23rd Annual Sleepy Hollow Car Show, also known as the Festival of the Rolling Arts. The Friday night, 30 km cruise goes from Sechelt to Halfmoon Bay and includes over 450 classic cars. Show n’ Shine, Elvis impersonator and free corn!!

August 11 – Nanaimo Symphony by the Sea – A free outdoor summer concert performed by the Vancouver Island Symphony conducted by Calvin Dyck. Special appearance by a Cirque Performer. Bring a blanket, lawn chair and a picnic basket.

August 18 - 19 – Hackett Park Arts & Crafts Fair – The fair is set amongst the trees of Hackett Park in Sechelt, and features local musicians such as The Gibson Girls acapella trio.

August 19 – Chemainus Jazz Festival – Held at Waterwheel Park

August 23 – 26 – Vancouver Wooden Boat Festival – This annual family friendly festival is celebrating its 31 year anniversary. Held at Granville Island, admission is free and includes a boat building challenge, children’s festival and knot tying

July 2018

July 1 - Sept 2 - Butchart Gardens Fireworks (Saturday Evenings) feature a jaw-dropping, dazzling firework show with both aerial and ground displays choreographed to music.  Take it from my Mom, she goes ever year!

July 6 – 8 - Nanaimo Dragonboat Festival is now in its 16th year at Maffeo Sutton Park.  Dragon boat racing is one of the most amazing sports you will ever get to witness so take the time to come down and cheer on the 70+ racing teams. Then stay for the Shriners pancake breakfast, food trucks, candle and carnation ceremonies. 

July 14 - Davis Bay Sandcastle Competition- registration starts at 10:30 am, building the sandcastles is from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm, and winners will be announced at 2:45 pm.  Lions will be selling t-shirts and running a concession at the beach. Jim Taylor will bring lively music to the beach area. Be sure to wear sunscreen and a hat. Bring your pails and shovels, have fun and make great memories!      

July 13 – 15 – The Catalina Sailboat Rendezvous at Telegraph Harbour Marina on Thetis Island.  Contact sailorguyrob@gmail.com for details. 

July 15th- The 28th Annual Nanaimo Silly Boat Regatta Every year this event brings more fun for people of all ages with entertainment, food vendors, free activities for children and lots of silly racing. The Silly Boat Regatta is strongly supported by amazing local business sponsors. 

July 20 – 22 – the 34th Islands Folk Festival at Providence Farm, Duncan, BC.  Folk Festivals are all about growing and nurturing the next generation of live music lovers! We want young families to be part of our event and know they can cut loose, dance, camp under the stars and do it all with their kids too!  Visit our Wee Folks Area for lots of fun and activities. Bring your family and become part of our family! 

July 21 - Bowen Island Classic Car Show features unique vehicles, art installations and music.

July 27 – 29 - Sea Cavalcade in Gibsons has one of the best logos ever!  Now in its 50th year, this fun filled weekend has something for everyone.  The Tin Man Challenge, Keats to Armours swim, pancake breakfast, beer garden, classic cars, salmon BBQ and a parade.

 July 28, August 1st and August 4th - For the first time ever, the Honda Celebration of Light invited the public to vote on a theme for this year’s fireworks competition. “Love” was selected by an overwheliming majority, don’t miss your chance to share in the excitement and see how each team will incorporate the theme.  This year, the festival features South Africa, Sweden and South Korea

June 1-14 – Van Isle 360 International Yacht Race is now in its eleventh running and has grown into one of the most respected and exciting yacht races on the entire west coast, with international media coverage, heart-stopping drama and superb racing action. 

June 8 – World Ocean’s Day - On World Oceans Day, people around our blue planet celebrate and honor the ocean, which connects us all. Get together with your family, friends, community, and the planet to start creating a better future. Working together, we can and will protect our shared ocean. Join this growing global celebration on 8 June!

June 8-17 – BC Seafood Festival – Featuring a star studded selection of chefs and venues around the Comox Valley.  Now in its 11th year, order online as tickets sell out fast.

June 10 – Burrard Yacht Club Classic Boat & Car Show features a great collection of classic cars and wooden boats.  Free Sailing for the kids and a dinner/dance on the breakwater.  This is an annual fundraiser for the Disabled Sailing Association. I have attended with my classic car and it is a fun event.

June 10 – Boat for Hope Vancouver takes place around English Bay, False Creek and Hastings Mill Park and brings together the local boating and business community to create an unforgettable experience for kids who may otherwise never be able to enjoy such an adventure.

June 15-17 – Gibson’s Landing Jazz Festival now in its 23rd year and featuring too many performers to list and a street festival followed by a dance at the Gibsons Royal Canadian Legion.

June 17 – Father’s Day – Don’t forget dear old dad!

June 22-24 - Annual Vancouver Dragon Boat Festival is 3 days of exciting racing and onshore events.  A big draw is the Survivor Showdown, Abreast In A Boat vs. Butts In A Boat – is a challenge between prostate and breast cancer survivors to help build awareness.

May 12thThe 12th Annual Spot Prawn Festival - This year, the food scene has changed at the Festival!  Enjoy a bowl of delicious gluten free and lactose free Spot Prawn Chowder made from fresh-off-the-boat BC spot prawns served with bread from Terra Bread.  Or join us for an exciting Brunch featuring a tasting menu with 6 spot prawn dishes created by some of Vancouver's best chefs,  freshly baked bread from Terra Breads, and wine sample pours from our sponsors, Evolve Cellars,  as well as beer from Moody Ales and a coffee from Mogiana Coffee along with a sweet treat from La Glace.

May 14 – 19th – BC Boating Week - Just in time for the long weekend and the kick off to the recreational boating season!  Watch for local business offering great boating promotions and events.

May 17th – We love Joe Stanton, live at The Old Boot Eatery in Sechelt, no cover, fantastic music, good food and cold drinks.

May 20th – Saltspring Island's giant communal garage sale and everything is sold out of the back of a vehicle.  Held at the Rainbow Road Aquatic Centre parking lot from 9 .am. to 1:00 p.m.  Admission is free, $10 to sell from your car. 

May 26thLadysmith Community Marina Heritage Boat Festival - The annual Heritage Boat Festival at the Ladysmith Community Marina is on Saturday, May 26th from 10 am – 4 pm, and will feature over 2o heritage vessels from all over the west coast. This event is open to the public and includes free Harbour tours on Maritimer, and many new exhibits of maritime art. Meet members of the local Coast Guard and take a ride on one of their newest hovercrafts.

April 12 – 15th - The 4th Annual Nanaimo Boat Show will continue to grow from the success of previous years and promote the expansion of the boating industry on Vancouver Island. At last year’s show, they welcomed over 3,000 visitors and showcased millions of dollars worth of products and services. 

April 14thWine For Waves at the Four Seasons Hotel in Vancouver.  Be the first to sip and savour Naramata Bench’s Spring Wine Releases. On April 13, this delicious evening of wining and dining will bring together B.C.’s best wineries and sustainable seafood restaurants. Taste Ocean Wise offerings, meet top B.C. winemakers, and bid on silent auction items including exclusive Naramata wines and wine experience packages. All proceeds will benefit the Ocean Wise sustainable seafood program. This is a 19+ event. 

April 21 – Bluewater Cruising presents “Women and the Realities of Voyaging”.  This full day seminar features Lisa Copeland and Agathe Gaulin who will discuss what it’s really like to be at sea and how to plan and be prepared.

 April 22 - Think globally while acting locally through Stanley Park Ecology Earth Day celebration at Stanley Park! Join in for a day of hands-on ecology through restoration activities, conservation action, crafts and booths for the whole family, and a tour to visit our local heron colony. Learn about the various conservation initiatives of the Stanley Park Ecology Society and how our work is supporting wildlife.  Free Admission!

 

 

March 2018

March 2 – 4 – BC’s largest boating, fishing, hunting and sportsmen’s show at the Tradex Complex in Abbotsford. Everything you need for your upcoming outdoor adventures.

March 1 – 25 - The Vancouver Maritime Museum proudly announces Cory Trépanier’s Into The Arctic Exhibition.This exhibit encompasses over 50 Arctic oil paintings and 3 films from Trepanier’s 4 Arctic expeditions to the furthest reaches of the Canadian North. Its wilderness is so remote and untouched that many of its landscapes have never been documented before. 

March 6 and 8 – Parks Canada Gwaii Haanas - Orientations are required before you can visit Gwaii Haanas. Normally presented in Skidegate on central Haida Gwaii, this opportunity will allow you to enter the area by boat directly from the mainland coast after you have made your reservations. Even if you are just thinking about a trip to Gwaii Haanas, this orientation will be a great way to learn more about this incredible place. 

March 20 – The Spring Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere will be at 9:15 a.m. on March 20th.  During the equinoxes the Sun shines directly on the equator and the length of day and night is nearly equal – but not quite.  The March equinox marks the moment the Sun crosses the celestial equator – the imaginary line in the sky above the Earth’s equator – from south to north and vice versa in September.

 Feb 1 – 14 – The Hot Chocolate Festival returns for its 8th year, bigger and better than ever, with Vancouver’s best chocolatiers, pastry shops, bakeries, cafes, gelato and ice cream makers coming together to make the humble hot chocolate hotter than it has ever been before.

February 9 – 10 - Love and Romance are front and centre in the beautiful Orpheum theatre, as conductor William Rowson and the VSO perform music that will get you in the mood for Valentine’s. Joined by pianist Jon Nakamatsu, soprano Robyn Driedger-Klassen, and tenor Frédérik Robert, the orchestra dials up some of the most sensual and romantic music ever written.

February 14 – Valentine’s Day – How about ice skating at Robson Square, the People’s Prom, after hours cocktails and “sex talk” (about coral) at the Vancouver Aquarium, Chinese New Year or a five-course dinner at Grouse Mountain

February 24 – March 4 – 40th Annual Vancouver International Wine Festival  is Canada’s premier wine show and widely considered to be the best wine event in North America. With ~25,000 admissions, it is one of the biggest and oldest wine events in the world.  Tickets sell out fast.

January 21 – On-line registration is open for Women’s Day at the 2018 Vancouver Boat Show.  Join us on Sunday, January 21, 2018 for a full day of boating seminars and guest speakers designed to educate and inspire.  Pre-registration is required.

January 26 – February 3 – Seattle Boat Show has lots of free boating and fishing seminars, scope out the latest watercraft and accessories from hundreds of exhibitors, and be entertained with fun events, food and drinks, and family-friendly activities. From stand-up paddleboards to superyachts, the Seattle Boat Show is bringing even more this year.
