May Long on Jedediah

Where did you and your boat go this May long? Here's what one member of the PYS team got up to. With the weather not looking too great, we set out for Jedediah this May long weekend. We left on Saturday morning from Pender Harbour after stocking up at the local grocery store in Madeira Park. With winds blowing from the SE, and a light NW forecast for Sunday, we anchored right in front of Long Bay since both Deep Bay and White Rock Bay were already full with other boats. After stern tying to shore and confirming we were securely anchored, we ventured to the island to embark on our hike from Long Bay all the way to Home Bay. Characteristic of this time of year we encountered many sheep and their lambs. We also beachcombed the south side of the island but found nothing other than loads of driftwood.

I'm always hopeful I'll find that ever elusive Japanese glass float. The highlight of our trip was our hike to the summit of Gibraltar on Sunday. With the sun shining in the late morning we followed the goat trail to the peak. The hike may be pretty laid back but the view at the top is breathtaking.

What's your favourite spot to anchor at Jedediah or the surrounding Northern Gulf Islands?
